(NOTTAWA) – Voters in the Nottawa School District approved their operating millage renewal on Tuesday.
Voters cast 80 Yes votes (78.43%) and 22 No votes (21.57%) to approve the request.
The millage renewal was asking for 19.4666 mills. This allows Nottawa School to collect the full 18 mills they are allowed to from the State of Michigan. Due to the Headlee Rollback, schools don’t collect the 18 mills unless they have a millage in place to make up the difference.
The millage applies to non-homestead properties such as businesses, vacation homes, rental properties and vacant land.
The millage, which will generate $600,000 of operational costs, can be used for school operations, teachers, staff, children’s materials, supplies, facility maintenance and utilities.
