(COLDWATER) – Sentence has been given to a man for an incident that happened in Coldwater earlier this year.
Branch County Circuit Court officials say 38 year old Robert Stevens of Sherwood has been sentenced to 3 to 10 years in prison, after he plead guilty to assault with intent to do great bodily harm.
Police officers with the Coldwater Department Of Public Safety were called out on a report of a man standing in the road on East Chicago Road west of Monroe Street just after 11 PM on March 25. Officers encountered Stevens, who was agitated and had blood on his hands.
While police were talking to Stevens, another call came in from 33 year old Jordan Latta of Coldwater who said that Stevens assaulted him and also bit him on the face and neck.
City of Coldwater cameras showed that Latta pulled around Stevens, parked his car and went to talk to Stevens and the two men fought and fell to the ground.
Stevens was also given a sentence of 3 to 5 years after he entered a guilty plea to a charge of malicious destruction of property for breaking out windows of the Southern Michigan Bank and Trust offices at 48 West Chicago earlier that evening.
The court says the sentences will run concurrently, and that Stevens was also ordered to pay $1,477 in restitution to the bank.
