(CASSOPOLIS) – The preliminary hearing of a Dowagiac man has been adjourned until next week.
Cass County District Court personnel say the hearing for 24 year old Rolandis Russell has been delayed to allow for testimony from a forensic pathologist.
Russell is charged with first degree murder and felony firearms in connection with the July 29 shooting death of 42 year old Phabian Wesaw of Dowagiac. The incident happened at 2:30 AM, when the Dowagiac Police Department received a call from the Beeson Street Bar about an argument that started inside the building between Russell and another person. The disagreement then moved into the parking lot. At some point, Russell got into his car and pulled out an AK-47 and fired into a crowd of 5 to 10 people multiple times.
The investigation determined that Russell actually meant to kill someone else, but the bullet hit Wesaw instead. He died from the wound.
Russell ran away from the scene, but was located and arrested by Dowagiac Police a short time later.
