(STURGIS) – U.S. 12 in downtown Sturgis is open once again.

Michigan Department of Transportation crews finished the reconstruction project on U.S. 12 and the Michigan Southern Railroad crossing just west of Jefferson Street on Thursday. The project had a price tag of $587,000 and included concrete driveways, curb and gutter, sidewalk ramp upgrades, lighting and pavement markings.

MDOT says the project will improve safety and result in a smoother ride
for motorists.

Work started on the project April 22 and finished a week earlier than projected.
