(COLDWATER) – A sentence has been handed down on a man for assaulting a woman in Coldwater.
Branch County Circuit Court personnel say 49 year old Daniel Torres plead no contest to a charge of assault with a weapon. Because of that plea, the Branch County Prosecutor's Office did not authorize a charge of assault by strangulation or of being a habitual offender.
The incident happened in December 2018 in the 500 block of Morse Street between Torres and a 53 year old woman. A hearing found Torres competent
to stand trial after he was arrested.
Torres will serve between two and a half and four years in prison.
