(STURGIS) – Sturgis Fest 2020 has been canceled.
That was the announcement made Friday afternoon by the Sturgis Area Chamber of Commerce. Chamber Executive Director Cathi Abbs says this was the last thing they wanted to do, but it was the responsible decision.
Safety is the obvious concern in canceling Sturgis Fest for this year. But Abbs says there were other considerations as well. LINKC.
Abbs says it was not responsible for the Chamber to ask for sponsorship money and then possibly have to cancel the events just prior to the start of the festival.
The Chamber announced in April they were moving Sturgis Fest to August in the hopes the State of Michigan would be opened up more from the Executive Order issued by Governor Gretchen Whitmer because of the coronavirus.
Abbs says they are still looking to do a community event this summer. LINKD.
Abbs says they will keep the community informed as to what will be happening and when it will be.
